A message from the President of ARSA-F-Association of Russian Artists
I am very pleased to extend an invitation to miniaturists and lovers of art to take part in the 5th worldwide conferrence and exhibition taking place in Moscow, Russia in September, 2012. You will have a unique opportunity to exchange opinions and views and experience what inevitably brings inspiration to each artist of creative work. You will be able also to appreciate the hospitality of Russian people and get in touch with the rich cultural and historical patrimony of this country. The display will be organised in the Gallery of Russian Academy of Art, centrally located and a few minutes walk from the suggested place of accommodation. Prefessional equipment for presentations and a team of English speaking interpreters will be available for any kind of communication and help, including direct contacts with Russian miniaturists who will also present their works. Visitors will find below the timetable of events.
There is no need to say that it is impossible to get fully acquainted with Russia within several days, with its multi-ethnic, multi-traditional and geographical diversity spread over the sixth of the Earth’s land mass. Therefore we suggest an excursion program covering Moscow and Saint Petersburg – as we say “two capitals” – very different in their appearance and spiritual content.
As a member of the WFM, ARSA-F – Association of Russian Artists and hosts of the event, we will be happy to welcome you to our country. We are sure that your visit will be not only impressive and enjoyable but also will make a contribution to friendship, mutual understanding and peace on our planet, in which art in all its forms, plays an outstanding role.

PLACES OF INTEREST TO VISIT WHILE IN MOSCOW
Morning visit to the Kremlin and Armoury. Kremlin - The history of the Moscow Kremlin goes back to olden times. The first written record of Moscow dates back to 1147 to the reign of Great Prince Yuri of Kiev, Vladimir Monomakh’s son. Under Dmitry Donskoy in 1367-1368 the white stone walls and towers of the Kremlin were erected and Moscow began to be called the “white stone”. In 1485-1495 the Kremlin was totally rebuilt. It was then that the first brick buildings appeared and it largely acquired its present appearance and dimensions. The Kremlin has been the residence of the President of the Russian Federation and his Administration since 1992. The Kremlin has been and remains a unique monument of Russian culture and a symbol of Russian statehood. As well as the center of Russian statehood it was also the residence of Russian tsars and hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church. Armory – The main museum of the Kremlin features the Armoury Palace which showcases unique specimens of Russian, Western Europian and Oriental applied art of the fifth century to the beginning of the twentieth century. On display is one of the most remarkable exhibits in the Kremlin museums linked to the genealogy of Russian princes. This is the Cap of Monomakh the Russian tsars’ inherited crown.
Visit the State Tretyakov Gallery. The Gallery is the national treasury of Russian fine art and one of the greatest museums in the world. The Gallery’s collection consists entriely of Russian art which includes the worldwide known icon “St Trinity” by Andrei Rublev and ar tists who have made a contribution to the history of Russian art or been closely connected with it. The collection contains more than 150,000 works which inlcudes paintings, sculptures and graphics created throughout the ceturies by successive generations of Russian artists. After lunch – drive to Kolomenskoye Real Estate. The village was first mentioned in the testament of Ivan Kalita (1339). As time went by the village was developed as a favourite country estate of grad princes of Muscovy. The earliest extant structure is theexceptional Ascension church, built in white stone to commemorate the long-awaited birth of an heir to the throne, the future Ivan the Terrible. As it was the first stone church of tent-like proportions the uncanonical “White Column” (as it is sometimes referred to) marked a stunning rupture with the Byzantine tradition. In 1994 the church was recognised by UNESCO as a masterpiece of Russian architecture and placed onthe World Heritage List. During this excursion visitors will be welcomed by a tasting traditional Russian dishes like “pirozhki”, pancakes and tea.
Drive to Sergief Posad where the main monastery (Lavra) is located – the Heart of the Russian Orthodox Church. You will visit the spiritual center of Russia which was founded by St Sergius of Radonezh who played a crucial role in Russia’s victory over the Tartar-Mongol yoke. On the way there will be a visit to Abramtsevo Real Estate which was originally owned by author Sergei Aksakov. During the 1870s and 1880s Abramtsevo hosted a colony of artists who sought to recapture the quality and spirit of medieval Russian art.
Morning – time for leisure. Evening – boat trip on the Moscow river with farewell fourchette on board. Return to the hotel. NOTE: For those who would like to continue with the St Petersburg program – 10.00 pm departure to the railway station to take a train leaving Moscow around 12.00 pm.

The main architectural ensemble of the Hermitage which is situated in the centre of St Petersburg consists of th Winter Palace, the former state residence of the Russian emporors.
Morning visit to Peterhof. The Peterhof Palace is actually a series of palaces and gardens, laid out on the orders of Peter the Great. These Palaces and gardens are sometimes referred to as the “Russian Versailles”. The palace-ensemble along with the city center is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The dominant natural feature of Peterhof is a sixteen-metre-high bluff lying less than one hundred metres from the shore. The so-called Lower Gardens which comprise the better part of Peterhof’s land area, are confined between this bluff and the shore stretching east and west for roughly 200 metres. The majority of Peterhof’s fountains are contained here as are several small palaces and outbuildings. Atop the bluff, near the middle of the Lower Gardens, stands the Grand Palace which is the centerpiece of the entire compex. At its foot begins the Sea Channel, one of the msot extensive waterworks of the Baroque period.
